Some of us don't trust the guilds and are living outside that whole situation.
So just a heads up but there are places to live around the city that don't check IDs and will take your word for it if you say you're just a young-looking 18 or emancipated. They're not exactly the Hilton but if you want to stay out of the whole system they're there.
It's not easy because without documentation you have to find a job somewhere that pays under the table, but it's doable.
Alone isn't necessarily better. I don't know what's worse, alone or the guilds, but I don't want to be stay in an enchanted hotel without a reason. And you can't trust foster parents at all.
[ Nico is fine with sleeping in fields in warmer climates and possibly stealing food, because what would he even do for a job? He has no idea. ]
What about the school thing? They said that all the kids have to go to prove that we can use our powers. If I just - don't. What happens?
The key thing is to just keep your head down after you go off on your own. Like me and my best friend wear masks when doing hero things and using our powers, so nobody knows our civilian IDs and shows up at our front door.
And in the day to day, we just tell everyone he's a very young-looking 18.
[Kon can pass without any lies. It's the face scruff. ]
If you want to avoid the school, they don't go out of their way to seek people out so you mostly just have to drop off the radar and mask up when using powers publicly for plausible deniability.
I'm not gonna lie, it's not easy, especially on the job front, but if something about the whole guild and school thing rubs you the wrong way it's not impossible. And there are a few of us out here. Maybe you can find a roomie. It's easier to get by when you're sharing a place.
[ There's something in the way he says it that tips his hand - he has done what his world would call hero stuff. However, there's quite a gap between their definitions. ]
Why would a hero wear a mask? Wouldn't it restrict your vision in battle?
[ But that's the information that Nico has been looking for. ]
So no one's going to come after me if I rough it. They're not coming after you and your friend, and you're barely hiding. And I've been using this phone, and not a single monster's come after me.
[After that Instagram comment, Will's pulling on his gloves, a cute, autumn-themed sweater, and a scarf. He heads down, feeling glad that at least he remembers where the McDonald's is. It's not hard for him to find Nico. The son of Apollo doesn't hesitate to walk over to him.]
Hey, Nico. Wanna head somewhere a little more private? Preferably somewhere we can be open, but I'll leave that to you.
[ Hurriedly shoving his phone in his pocket, Nico offers Will a McDonald’s bag giving off lukewarm heat. Then he takes Will by the wrist. ]
Just tell me where to go.
[ He doesn’t want the choice to be his, because he’s dreading the conversation. The thrill of finding kids who think he’s cool without trying to fit in made him want to fit in. Nico thinks it’s on a collision course with reality now. ]
[ He’s already mostly in shadows leaning against the wall. Nico pulls Will in closer, and the shadows twist to enshadow them.
Then it’s like they were never there, which will make an interesting story for the drivers trapped in the the drive through.
Where they are is a copse of trees near Belvedere Castle in Central Park. Nico didn’t want to go too far south. He… hasn’t heard anything calling him since he got here, but he doesn’t want to get too close to the Underworld. Just in case.
He wobbles a little. It always feels like more when he’s in a dark mood. ]
I’m okay. But I’m not stopping for ice cream on the way back.
[The next time Nico is at the attic safehouse, he’ll find a large but simple black and silver wrapped box labeled for him.
Inside the box are three items. One is a nice bomber jacket because one can never have too many jackets. Second is a large box KitKats of varying sizes. Finally, the third item is a note reminding Nico that he’s always welcomed to the penthouse and to stay with Jason, Dylan, and Nico if he likes]

Eh, it'll probably still taste fine. Thanks, Nico.
[Ah, heck. He's quick to recover after a second's thought.]
If you think you can make it, that one spot in Central Park you like so much. Otherwise, there's my room at the hotel.

Tell the school to bite me. It's after 3, I wasn't on school property, and they're jerks.

not that I think switching guilds is a bad idea, but is it safe to be so loud about it right now?
